The European Marathon Classics: A Brand New Reason to Tour Europe's Greatest Marathons

The European Marathon Classics: A Brand New Reason to Tour Europe's Greatest Marathons

If you've ever dreamed of combining your love of running with exploring some of Europe's most iconic cities, the newly launched European Marathon Classics (EMC) series might just be the motivation you need.

The TCS London Marathon has been announced as one of eight legendary races forming the European Marathon Classics, a continent-wide marathon series that challenges runners to complete at least five of Europe's most celebrated 26.2-mile courses.

What Is the European Marathon Classics?

The EMC brings together eight of Europe's finest marathons into a single, long-term challenge. There's no time limit, no pressure, just a brilliant goal to work towards at your own pace across some of the most stunning cities on the continent.

The eight marathons in the series are:

  • Maratona di Roma 22/03
  • Vienna City Marathon 19/04
  • Zurich Rock'n'Roll Running Series Madrid 26/04
  • TCS London Marathon 26/04
  • Copenhagen Marathon 10/05
  • Warsaw Marathon 27/09
  • EDP Lisbon Marathon 10/10
  • Mainova Frankfurt Marathon 25/10

From the Mediterranean warmth of Rome and Madrid, to the Atlantic coastlines of Lisbon and London, through the heart of Europe in Vienna, Warsaw and Frankfurt, and up to Copenhagen in the north, this is marathon tourism at its finest.

How Does It Work?

The concept is refreshingly simple. Complete at least five of the eight marathons, each in a different city, and you'll earn the title of European Marathon Classics Finisher, along with a stunning commemorative medal.

The medal itself is something special: a large disc with a concentric design, featuring space for magnetic collectible coins representing each race you've completed. As you tick off more marathons, your medal grows into a personalised record of your journey across Europe.

Registration is free at europeanmarathonclassics.eu, with entry fees applying individually for each marathon as normal.

Past Results Count Too

Here's the really exciting part for seasoned marathon runners: the organisers plan to recognise historical results dating back to the very first editions of each race. The oldest event in the series, the Madrid Marathon, dates back to 1978, so if you've already ticked off a few of these races over the years, you may already be closer to Finisher status than you think.

Through a partnership with letsdothis.com, participants should be able to add verified past results to their profiles from the second half of 2026.

Why We Love This at Runderwear

At Runderwear, we know that marathon running isn't just about the finish line, it's about the journey, the training, the exploration, and the community you build along the way. The European Marathon Classics captures all of that perfectly.

Whether you're a seasoned multi-marathon runner or someone looking for that next big goal after your first 26.2, this series gives you something incredible to aim for. And let's be honest, planning your next European city break around a marathon is about as good an excuse as it gets.

Of course, if you're going to be racking up the miles across Europe, you'll want kit that goes the distance with you. Our performance running underwear is designed to keep you comfortable and chafe-free whether you're pounding the streets of London or Rome, Copenhagen or Lisbon. Because nobody wants their marathon memories to include chafing.

Ready to Start Planning?

The series logo features ten colourful circles, eight for the current marathons, with room for future expansion. So this is just the beginning.

Head to europeanmarathonclassics.eu to register for free and start mapping out your European marathon adventure. And when you're ready to train, make sure you're kitted out with Runderwear, because every mile matters, and so does what you wear for it.
