2022 Running resolutions

Goal setting is an important part of Runderwear’s culture, it’s how we maintain motivation to improve as a company and as individuals. Which is why, as a team, we set annual running resolutions in the hope of keeping each other on track and accountable. Of course it doesn’t need to be a new year to form positive habits, but there’s something particularly inspiring about the prospect of the clean slate that a new year brings.

Reflecting on 2021

As important as it is to look ahead, a new year is also a time to reflect and be proud of all that we’ve achieved. Like many, 2021 threw a few curve balls our way, with yet more cancelled events, injuries and life’s general challenges. Our CEO, Rich, reflects on what 2021 had in store for him…

“Covid restrictions to gyms/pools and races affected us all this year. I was lucky enough that the event I was targeting in May, the Eton Dorney Triathlon, went ahead and was a great day! I was really pleased how the race went overall with strong bike and run times.

With the pools closed at the start of the year my swim goal was a struggle but I did manage to turn that frown upside down and target a couple of Duathlons instead. I absolutely loved doing something new and was pleased with a 5th place finish at the world champs qualifier in October.

A recurrence of a an injury put the Manchester marathon out of reach in October but I am pleased to say I am doing it this April instead! If at first you don’t succeed try again! So far so good 🤞”

Jamie, our Co-Founder and Head of Product, had a particularly challenging year due to ongoing injury. He reflected, "unfortunately I was unable to achieve my goals due to injury. I tore my meniscus in the middle of the year after a good start to 2021. I had planned on running Berlin Marathon in September. With the place pushed back to 2022 this will become my focus, motivation and A-race in the new year.
With my knee operation complete I am looking forward to the rehabilitation and getting back to building some running volume by hopefully February/March time in the hope of running a half marathon in the first half of the year.

Looking ahead to 2022

Rich – Co-Founder and CEO

"My main goals for this year are
1 – Manchester Marathon in April. I aim to do a 100kg bench, 150kg squat and 200kg deadlift the same weekend as the marathon, as well as aiming for a sub 3-hour marathon time!
2 – Sub 17 minute 5km”


Molly - Customer Service 

“For me, 2022 is the year of consistency and running events! I’d like to take part in another local Maverick Race, as I enjoyed my first one so much this year, as well as run my first ever half marathon. I’ll be aiming to continue improving my running by making sure I’m getting out at least 2/3 times a week.”


Skye - Marketing Team

"I've finished 2021 strongly, with more miles ran and more miles cycled than I have ever achieved before! Consistency has never been my friend but I've learnt to improve through time management and setting new routines – so I'm using 2022 as my springboard to achieve some new goals! After running my first marathon in 3hrs 58m, I'd love to challenge myself to go sub 3hrs 30m. I would be delighted with a sub 19m 5k too! I am also aiming to run over 1,500km in 2022 and compete in my first triathlon. Let's go!"

Chris - USA General Manager 

When I was post-baseball career and competing in triathlons to scratch my competitive itch, I found that I lost too much muscle (to my physiological liking!) while doing so much in the way of endurance training. So, I've always been careful with future training so I remain strong - So...given my wife Lauren is Chicago Marathon training for 2022, I will be running some of her longer distance training runs with her and will compete in a half marathon with her (specific race TBD depending on her training schedule). My challenge will be to run that race sub-1:45, bench press 225lb, squat 300lb and do 15 consecutive pullups all in the same weekend.

Ben - Australian General Manager

“I’m setting myself two main goals for 2022; the first is to win the race against my wife at parkrun, with me pushing our son in the pram, which is scheduled for before our son turns one. Secondly, I’ll be working hard to beat my Marathon PB – obviously wining the pram race is the far more important of the two goals!"

Staying on track

Maintaining motivation to carry these goals through the year will undoubtedly be tough at times, so checking in on each other will be crucial to our success.
